Planning and Prioritisation
To plan and prioritise involves setting clear goals which will help your short-term and long-term objectives. Create a schedule by using a planner, calendar or digital tool to map out your day, week and month. PS: your basic mobile phone calendar works just fine as a planner with reminders and notifications to keep you posted of your upcoming events when you register it in of course.
While doing the above, ensure to prioritise your most important tasks (MITs) and tackle them first, don’t just attend to every task as they come. Use techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix (urgent/important) to categorise tasks, divide complex projects into smaller, more manageable steps.
Organisation & Focus
Create a dedicated space (if you work or school remotely). This helps to minimise distractions and create a conducive environment for focused work. To minimise distractions, you can turn off notifications, limit social media use and find a quiet space to work or basically indulge in something that keeps you away from the noise and help you focus better. Practice time blocking which is basically time allotment for specific tasks. You can also use the pomodoro technique (e.g., 25 minutes) followed by a 5 minutes break or more, depending on you.
Efficiency & Effectiveness
Do not be afraid to delegate tasks when appropriate, if you are in the position to. Avoid overcommitting yourself. Tackle tasks promptly and avoid putting them off. Optimise your workflow by identifying and eliminating time wasting activities. Regularly review and adjust your time management strategies and make adjustments where needed.
Self-Care & Wellbeing
Ensure you get enough sleep. There is a time for many words and there is also a time for sleep. It will help you to maintain energy and focus, which you require to function well. Fuel your body with nutritious foods, take regular breaks to prevent burnout. Ensure to exercise regularly to enhance the cognitive function.
